The hottest thing on the anime market at this time is Hellsing- When I first saw the preview for this, it looked like it would only be a gory vampire story. I was pleasantly surprised when I sat down to watch it. First off- Alucard kicks ass. He isn't the main character, but he should be! Nevertheless, he's the place to start. What does he do, and why does he kick ass? Anyone who caries a pistol that's bigger then the average man's forearm that requires explosive rounds has to be cool. The fact that he's a super-powered vampire assassin who assassinates other vampires only adds to his appeal. The main character is Seras Victoria- A innocent police girl turned vampire, who was embraced by Alucard in the first episode. The both work for a secret militant religious group called Hellsing. The organization's goal is purge the damned undead from the earth, and is run by the ambiguously gendered Sir Integra. Why do they have two vampires working for them? That remains to be seen.

Hellsing is full of tons of action, and has what's promising to be a great story- the only thing I'm wondering about is how well they are going to be able to develop the plot. It is really gory, and there are some semi-explicit sexual scenes- For example, a girl performing fellatio on her vampire boyfriend as he shoots several rounds of bullets into his newly created ghouls. I will continue to watch this series to it's finish with sick facination.

Hellsing is going to be 13 episodes, which is a Japanese half-season. Two volumes are currently available, but Volume 2 was released on the September10th, and is going to be hard to find for a while. Volume 1 was also available in a collector's sleeve that includes a fake bag of blood. A great item to leave lying around, for your parents or significant other to find! Volume 2 comes with a Hellsing patch, while Volume 3 comes with an Alucard action figure
