Dir en Grey

I realized something on the way to a show in downtown the other night- I talk about this band alot, but I have yet to do a section on them here. This was mostly fueled by Scott getting in my car and saying "Wow I haven't heard this albumn yet!" So here you go- Enjoy.

Dir en Grey is one of my two absolute favorite bands. (The other is Laputa ^_~) I first heard about them back in 1998, when they were still indies. Of course in '98, I didn't have a credit card- I was only 17! Also my computer at the time was old and ghetto- it had a dinky hard drive, no sound card, and no speakers. So although I had heard of them, I didn't actualy get to hear thier music until about 2 years ago. The first mp3 by them I downloaded off of AudioGalaxy was an indies song called "Jealous", from thier mini-albumn "Missa".

I hated it. Positively HATED it. The singer had an annoying whiny voice that made my skin crawl. I thought to myself, "Why is this band so popular? This stuff is AWEFUL." I realize now that I only listened to the opening- I didn't wait for the song to really get started. I still think the opening to that song is horrid. Anyhow, I began to think- that song can't be indicative of what they sound like! So I decided to download another song that had caught my eye because of it's title: "MACABRE". Where "Jealous" had made my teeth grind, "MACABRE" had the exact opposite effect. It opened with a great drum line, then an electric guitar over an accoustic, plus an wonderful bass line. Where Kyo's voice had been whiny, in "Jealous", now it was deep, sorrowful, and full of disturbing emotional intensity. This I LOVED. So I downloaded another song- [KR]Cube. And so began my love for this amazing band. And now to part you all really wanted- the MP3s

Notes: I've been told the byo''shin on "Missa" is very different from the one on Six Ugly. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to buy a copy of Missa yet. "Ash" and "Waza" were only released on "Kaede ~if Trans~" If someone finds this incredibly rare indies Dir en Grey item, which will probably cost them upwards of $500, and wants to let me have the mp3s I'm missing, I'll love them for the rest of my life. "I'll" and "Jealous" are long out of print indies singles.
