ANIME SACRAMENTO NEWSLETTER , JUNE-JULY 2002
Welcome to the June-July 2002 Anime Sacramento Newsletter. Meetings of Anime Sacramento are bi-monthly, usually on the 2nd Saturday of the odd-numbered months, at the private residence of Laurine White, Sacramento, CA. Email me for directions. I enjoy trading non-commercial Japanese-language anime (such as tv episodes), and do limited freebie-dupes of same. E-mail me about trading tapes and some stuff I have for sale. Anime Sacramento e-mail address is lvbwhite@concourse.net

Next meeting is Saturday, July 13, 2002, from 1pm to 11pm. Thank you kind folks who brought munchies in May. Generic cookies and sodas are on hand for next meeting. Dinner break is 7-8pm. Back rooms are off-limits except for the women's lounge. On the schedule: Violinist of Hamelin #25 (conclusion, with or without subtitles). If you have anime DVDs you want to see or for others to see, bring them to the show.

Subscriptions to this newsletter are available, 3 issues for $1.80, 6 issues for $3.60. Make checks payable to Laurine White or send unused postage stamps. If your subscription is expiring, ask to be added to the personal distribution list for the newsletter (it's not an attachment) Just send me an email. Remember, if you change your email address, please let me know, so I can keep you on the distribution list. Also let me know if your email is set up to reject distribution list emails.

C/FO celebrates its 25th anniversary! That's right, the grandaddy of all American anime clubs started 25 years ago. They've had over 300 meetings, and continue to meet every month. (Anime Sacramento started as a C/FO chapter officially in 1984.) The C/FO website is http://members.tripod.com/~c_fo

Convention News: San Diego Comic-Con International is at the San Diego Convention Center August 1-4. Membership at the door is $60. Cartoon Network is running HAMTARO at 7am and 4pm Monday thru Friday; this anime is a bit too "kirei" for me. I am enjoying YU YU HAKUSHO (except for Kuwabara's voice) and COWBOY BEBOP on Saturday nights, 11pm to midnight.

News from various: The Bandai store at the Metreon Complex in San Francisco has gone out of business. (It was less impressive than expected, the one time that friends and I checked it out.)/ Did you know there was a WARRIORS OF VIRTUE II: THE RETURN TO TAO movie? Neither did I, but IFG has acquired the world rights to it./ Fans of general animation should check out www.animationblast.com, for info and articles about current and past animation (not anime)./ Future movie sequels - "Pitch Black 2", "X-Men 2", Independence Day 2.

Rightstuf (www.rightstuf.com) News - Bandai has created a Silent Mobius website, with in-depth synopses, info on toys, characters, manga, and the DVD releases - silentmobius.bandai-ent.com./ ADV is now the exclusive distributor of the American monthly NewType magazine, with news from Japan and America, product reviews and behind-the-scenes features. The first issue has a print run of 20,000.

www.comicsone.com - neat website where you can order miniature swords from STORM RIDERS, a Got Manga? T-shirt, and lots of translated manga, such as KABUTO (which I like). You can get wallpaper, view image galleries, send e-cards. You can also find news about the Hong Kong graphic novels (translated) that Comicsone plans to publish starting in August. That includes Tony (Jademan) Wong's sword titles: Weapons of the Gods, The Legendary Couple, and the futuristic action fantasy, Mega Dragon and Tiger, which has nothing to do with Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. (Sorry, I have no further news about the fate of that comicbook project.) Comicsone has been around since 1999 and has an office in Fremont, California.

"Road to Perdition", the movie, opens on July 12th. It stars Tom Hanks, Paul Newman and Jude Law.

www.aint-it-cool-news.com News: The latest Toho Godzilla movie, "Godzilla vs Mecha Godzilla", has started filming./ "Bulletproof Monk", starring Chow Yun-fat, will open in theaters next year./ Looks like there'll be a "Rush Hour" 3 and 4 in the future for Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan./ The future looks good for a sequel to "Storm Riders" now that a company has been found to work on the CGI. The sequel will be about Wind (Ekin Cheng) and his new master, played by Andy Lau./ Benicio Del Toro's next movie might either be "Blade 3" or "Doumu" (by Katsuhiro Otomo)./ Sean Connery will star in the "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" movie./ "Spider-Man 2" will open in theaters in May 2004./ Disney bought a script for "Snow White and the Seven", in which a 19th Century Englishwoman flees her stepmother in Hong Kong, taking refuge in a Shaolin Temple, where she is guarded by 7 monks.
