| ANIME SACRAMENTO NEWSLETTER, OCTOBER-NOVEMBER
2002 Welcome to the October-November 2002 Anime Sacramento Newsletter. Meetings of Anime Sacramento are bi-monthly, usually on the 2nd Saturday (but not this time) of the odd-numbered months, at the private residence of Laurine White, Sacramento, CA. I enjoy trading non-commercial Japanese-language anime (such as tv episodes), and do limited freebie-dupes of same. E-mail me about trading tapes and some stuff I have for sale. Anime Sacramento e-mail address is lvbwhite@concourse.net Next meeting will be Saturday, November 23, 2002, from 1pm to 11pm. That's the fourth Saturday, the weekend before Thanksgiving. Thank you kind folks who brought munchies in September. Crackers and various sodas are on hand for next meeting. Dinner break is 7-8pm. More DVDs are on hand for next meeting, including ARJUNA Vol 1, Jet Li's THE ONE and BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF (with Mark Dacascos), as well as some anime, maybe last year's Godzilla movie, maybe "Spirited Away" (if it is no longer playing in town). If you have anime DVDs you want to view with others, please bring them to the show. Subscriptions to this newsletter are available, 3 issues for $1.80, 6 issues for $3.60. Make checks payable to Laurine White or send unused postage stamps. If your subscription is expiring, ask to be added to the personal distribution list for the newsletter (it's not an attachment), just send me an email. Remember, if you change your email address, please let me know, so I can keep you on the distribution list. Also let me know if your email is set up to reject distribution list emails. Gamebots - new anime store in Sacramento - Cecile Daulton and her son Keaton have fulfilled a dream of opening their own video game store offering personalized service. Gamebots rents and sells video games and anime, offering special order service. The store also has anime tading cards, action figures, wall scrolls, and instore games to play. The anime-side hasn't been doing as well as expected, but business should pick up with three high school anime clubs in the area. They hope to expand the stock to include translated manga. Hours: 11 to 6 Monday thru Saturday noon to five Sundays. Directions: take 99 south to Calvine Road exit, turn left (east) on Calvine; from Calvine, turn left on Elk Grove Florin Road. One mile north, either turn left or U-turn at Vintage Park Drive. Gamebots is at 8876, Suite 116 in a small shopping mall on the southwest corner of Elk Grove Florin Road and Vintage Park. For info, phone (916) 681-0100. (Too bad the store is more than a 30-minute drive from my neighborhood.) International Channel: Dragonball GT episodes
start playing on the International Channel Sunday nights at 7:30 pm (West
Coast time) on November 10, no subtitles. For Sale: I (Laurine White) have Japanese
CDs for sale: RED - music soundtrack album from STEAM BOY DETECTIVE and
BLUE, a drama album, same anime series, $10 for the set; ULTRAMAN ACE
double CD set ($10); SFX GRAFFITI-ULTRAMAN - 4 CDs for $15; SHADOW SKILL
original music soundtrack double CD set, very nice music for $10. I also
have a non-commercial copy of DRAGONS FOREVER for $2. Is anyone interested
in three robot model kits, Net Attacker Glitch, Scratch, and Net Defender
E-Male? They are Skill Level 1, and I'll let them go for the cost of postage. PBS in November: PBS adds two new animated series on Saturday - "Cyberchase" (kids in cyberchase are challenged to use the power of math) and "Liberty's Kids" (it's 1776 Philadelphia and Ben Franklin (voiced by Walter Cronkite) and some kids fight for American independence). Mid-month - "Discovering the Real World of Harry Potter", a documentary special on the inspirations for the Harry Potter books. End of month - a new episode of "Mystery!", it's "Skinwalkers" based on the Tony Hillerman novel, with Wes Studi as Leaphorn. Sunday mornings, 11am to noon, the local PBS station (KVIE) will be running "Mythquest", in which two teens find themselves inside myths from various parts of the world (Wales, Mexico, Greece, etc.). If you missed it on KVIE Cable 7, catch it on Channel 6 this time around.
