ANIME SACRAMENTO NEWSLETTER, OCT-NOVEMBER 2004
Welcome to the October-November 2004 Anime Sacramento Newsletter. Meetings of Anime Sacramento are bi-monthly, usually on the 2nd Saturday of the odd-numbered months at the private residence of Laurine White, Sacramento, CA 95841. Showings are non-smoking, non-alcoholic, and usually (especially if kids are here) non-hentai. The house has plenty on-street parking in front, is 5 minutes walk from a supermarket and from the Bus 1 route, 10-minute drive from A1 Comics and diverse cuisine restaurants. There's no set schedule; it's a social event. Email the editor (me) at LVBwhite@concourse.net for info and directions. (Please put Subject line something like Attention Laurine, or it might get accidentally deleted with all the !@#$%&* spam. Fill in the subject line, and not with Hi!) I enjoy trading non-commercial Japanese-language anime tapes, and do limited freebie-dupes of same. E-mail me about trading tapes and some stuff I have for sale.
Next meeting, will be on the second Saturday, November 13, from 1pm to 10pm. Thank you kind folks who brought munchies in September. Plenty of sodas (Pepsi, Diet Coke, generic cola), chips, and Japanese snacks are on hand. Otherwise, bring whatever munchies you want to share. The schedule for November isn't set. Dinner break is 7-8pm (or whenever). Any anime requests? Bring your favorite new anime DVDs to watch with us. I also have lots of Asian action movie DVDs (and hope to get a different DVD player than last meeting, to run them).
A Japanese restaurant is finally opening in my neighborhood, thanks to the hot sushi bar trend. Shige Sushi is opening on the SE corner of Madison and Manzanita, in the former quarters of Sorrento's Restaurant. Also, the local Albertsons now stocks a greater variety of Japanese snack foods, including Choco-Pocky. Yeay!
Subscriptions to this newsletter are available, 3 issues for $1.80, 6 issues for $3.60. Make checks payable to Laurine White or send unused postage stamps. If your subscription is expiring, send me an email to be added to the newsletter personal distribution list (it's not an attachment). Remember, if you change your email address, please let me know, to stay on the distribution list. Also let me know if your email is set up to reject distribution list emails. Nippon in 2007 - . Attending membership, until 31 December 2004, is $160 (adult), $80 (child), rates lower if you pre-supported Nippon, or voted in the site selection for the 2007 worldcon. The convention will be held 30 August to 3 September 2007 in Yokohama. Author guests of honor: Sakyo Komatsu & David Brin, Fan guest - Takumi Shibano, Artist guests of honor: Yoshitaka Amano & Michael Whelan. The usual websites: Sacramento Anime (http://www.sacramentoanime.com) - Some of the Anime Sacramento newsletters are archived here, including the most recent ones. Ian has been doing a lot for the Sacramento Anime show each month, so I'll mention something he's involved with lately. It's Japan-A-Radio - The Best in Japanese Anime and Japanese Pop Music. Check out its website at http://www.japanaradio.com. It is Interactive Radio, not an online store.
Anime Meetups: info on the monthly meetups in Sacramento and elsewhere can be found at http://anime.meetup.com. The website has been restructured (more confusing now, I think). Meetup clubs now have an organizer. Thank you, AC, for being the volunteer Organizer for Sacramento Anime Meetup group.
Roseville Main Library Anime Club - meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, 7 to 9 pm. For more info phone 722-5222 or http://www.roseville.ca.us/index.asp?page=892.

Fantastic Frontiers (http://www.fantasticfrontiers.com) is the website for the regional Science Fiction club, with barbecues, meetings, Halloween party, and other events. They're trying to organize a real SF convention in Sacramento. There've been no cons here since the Eclecticon staff gafiated, burnt out, or moved away.
Tower Theatre at 16th & Broadway now has a website: http://www.thetowertheatre.com. Yeay! Also, Save the Tower Theater: http://www.savethetowertheatre.org site, thanks to the actions of idiot city council last March. It appears that CineArts has given up the idea of a 10th & K Street theater for now. The CineArts chain (mostly in the S.F. Bay Area) runs Asian films, like Warriors of Heaven and Earth, and Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War (neither of which will ever reach Sacramento). Tower Theater recently ran Ju-On and Zatoichi. And don't forget The Crest Theater (http://thecrest.com) which has shown Story of the Weeping Camel (excellent movie) and Spring, Summer, Winter, Fall? and Spring. Sacramento has two art theaters, both independent. It does not need a chain art theater.
